In 1989 in Ohio, a law was passed that dog owners with specific breeds must comply to stricter laws and in 2007, this ordinance was increased.
Many think that the law is controversial because it is not right to single out pit bulls and other mixes, just because of their breed. The original law was made after a dog, classified as a pit bull, made an unprovoked attack on a pregnant teenager.
Now they are trying to find a balance between safety and singling out certain dogs. A poll was sent out to see what residents in the area thought and the majority said that they wouldn’t mind if pit bulls were banned. Others think that the problem is not with the breed of dog, but with the humans that are raising the animal.
